Equipment List For a Backpacking Trip
If you planned on going on a long-term excursion but are unsure of the proper gear, then this list should help you pick some of the essentials. Many people take a trip in their life that involves backpacking through a foreign country and exploring a culture that is new to them. Whether you are going through Asia, Europe, North America or Central/South America, there are few items that shouldn’t be without.
Proper Pack/Daypack: A proper pack will be able to not only carry all your gear, but also withstand the rigors of travel. Ideally, a 60 to 75-liters should be able to carry all of your gear. Make sure the pack is good quality and will not come apart at the seams, which happens with cheaper bags. Also bring a smaller daypack for day excursions.

Multi-Tool: Make sure this tool has a knife and that you bring a sharpening stone to keep the blade razor sharp. This tool will be handy for you daily travels and invaluable in an emergency. Try the Leatherman brand or SOG.
Plug Adapters: Most countries have different outlet standards for electronics, so you are going to need to bring a number of different adapters. If you decide on bringing a camera, iPod or netbook, you’ll need to be able to connect them to outlets.
First Aid Kit: Bring one of these and include bandaids, antiseptic or polysporin and a tensor bandage for sprained ankles. Whether you are in a city or out in the wilderness, you need to be able to treat injuries quickly and with the right supplies. So be prepared.
