Equipment List For a Backpacking Trip

If you planned on going on a long-term excursion but are unsure of the proper gear, then this list should help you pick some of the essentials. Many people take a trip in their life that involves backpacking through a foreign country and exploring a culture that is new to them. Whether you are going through Asia, Europe, North America or Central/South America, there are few items that shouldn’t be without.

Proper Pack/Daypack: A proper pack will be able to not only carry all your gear, but also withstand the rigors of travel. Ideally, a 60 to 75-liters should be able to carry all of your gear. Make sure the pack is good quality and will not come apart at the seams, which happens with cheaper bags. Also bring a smaller daypack for day excursions.

A couple good outdoor movies can help. Try to find movies with characters who are the same age or a little older than your children. After watching them, suggest the idea of backpacking and gage the response.
